How is fuel preserved in GNR tanks?

Non-Road Diesel (GNR) is a fuel mainly used in the construction, agricultural, forestry, and river sectors. GNR is a less polluting alternative to domestic heating oil, significantly reducing the environmental impact of non-road vehicles.
At Alorem, we design, manufacture, and distribute GNR tanks for transport and for storing this fuel. Our transport tanks are ADR approved, meaning you can transport them full on public roads.

What are the storage conditions for fuel in a GNR tank?

GNR is a delicate fuel that requires specific storage conditions to prevent degradation.

Choosing the right model

Selecting the right model of GNR tank plays a key role. It is recommended to choose small-sized tanks to avoid excess air volume, which could degrade the fuel. If the large volume of the tank is not fully used, it will be necessary to compartmentalize the tank to improve preservation.

Tank cleaning

Many particles can settle at the bottom of the tank, reducing the fuel’s lifespan and potentially clogging vehicle engines. To avoid this, we recommend cleaning the tanks approximately every 5 years.

Precautions to take

During the filling of the tank, certain precautions must be taken to preserve the quality of the GNR and prevent contamination by external elements.

● When opening the tank cap, make sure it and the surrounding area are clean to prevent impurities from entering during refueling.

● Similarly, the refueling nozzle should be cleaned of any particles on its surface that could contaminate the tank.

● When closing the tank, it is crucial to ensure the cap is properly sealed.

● The presence of water in the tank can promote bacterial growth and contaminate the GNR. Heat and air can also contribute to this proliferation. This is why the tank should be placed in a dark and dry area that undergoes minimal temperature fluctuation.

Non-Road Diesel does not tolerate long-term storage well. Like all fuels, a maximum storage period must be respected. Depending on its quality, the storage period may vary from 6 to 9 months.

Our GNR tanks

Our GNR tanks are all designed to transport and store fuel safely. Made of double-walled steel for maximum durability and high resistance to weather conditions, they are available in multiple volumes to best meet your needs.
